Athens Center Faculty & Administration

Instructors in modern Greek at the Athens Centre currently include:

Anagnostopoulou Angeliki- Graduate of the University of Athens ( Literature).Postgraduate degree from the University of Birmingham, Institute of Archaeology. Speaks English, French, Spanish and Italian. Has taught modern Greek for several years, including a period at the "Escuela Oficial DeIdiomas" in Madrid, Spain. In addition to teaching modern Greek at the Athens Centre she is translating her second book.

Andrikoyanopoulou, Maria- Graduate of the University of Athens in Greek Literature. Did further studies at Sorbonne University in Paris. ( D.E.A. in Modern Greek Literature). Has been teaching ancient Greek, modern Greek and French since 1995.

Dimitra Lavva Graduate of   the University of Athens (Department of Philosophy, Psychology and Education). Speaks English and French. Fluent user of Greek sign language. Has been teaching ancient and Modern Greek language and literature for several years.

Divari, Maria – graduate of the University of Athens, dept. of Philosophy and Psychology. She has taught English as a foreign language to Greek students for 11 years, and modern Greek for the past two years. She speaks English, French and Spanish.

Cultural Programs Language Instruction Athens GreeceKapsaskis, Alexandros – graduate of the University of Thessaloniki, with advanced studies at the Institut d’Etudes Neo-Hellenique de Paris. Languages include English, French, German and Spanish. Has been teaching Modern Greek since 1989.

Karvouni, Eleni – graduate of the Sorbonne University in Paris. Speaks English and French. Has worked for Greek Radio, has translated French and English educational books for Kastanioti Publishing, and has written and published her own poetry. Has been teaching modern Greek for ten years.

Kioulafidou, Irene – graduate of the University of Athens. M.Phil., University of Glasgow. Speaks English and Italian. Has taught modern Greek since 1995, and has also taught ancient Greek. Co-author of a book of Greek tales specially formatted for the use of modern Greek language students.

Nella, Yanna – graduate of the University of Athens, with further studies in English and translation. Speaks English and French. Has been teaching modern Greek for five years, has done translations from English to Greek for Kedros Press, for the Cultural Capitals of Europe organization in Greece, and has taught special courses in Greek to groups of American university students for the past three years.

Papayanni, Stella– graduate of the University of Thessaloniki and had post-grad. studies (D.E.A) at the University of Strasbourg in France, in experimental phonetics and in teaching foreign languages. Has been teaching  Greek and French since 1990. Speaks French, English and some Spanish.

Papaioannou, Dora – graduate of the University of Athens in Greek and French Literature. She did her graduate work at the University of Sorbonne Nouvelle on the teaching of foreign languages utilizing audiovisual methodology. She holds a Masters in Greek and French Literature from the Sorbonne (Paris IV). She speaks English and French, and is the co-author of a book of Greek tales especially formatted for the use of Greek language students. Has been teaching modern Greek at the Athens Centre since 1991 and has collaborated in government sponsored programs dedicated to the Greek language for Greeks living abroad.

Peraki, Rosa – studied at the Sorbonne in Paris. Speaks English, French and Italian. Has taught modern Greek for 15 years at the Athens Centre.

Halkos, Vangelis- graduate of the University of Athens ( history and archaeology). He has been teaching
ancient Greek since 1996. He has also edited books for Parakis Press, for the Angira Press and historic texts for the internet site of the Foundation for the Hellenic World.

Eirini Pathiaki-Graduate of the University of Athens (History and
Archaeology). Postgraduate studies at the University
of Athens (Department of History). Speaks English,
French and Spanish. Has taught ancient Greek, modern
Greek and Spanish for several years. Has been teaching
Greek as a Foreign/Second Language in voluntary
non-governmental organizations, at the Lavrion
Reception Centre for Refugees and at the Athens Centre.
